Wildwood Elementary School has opened a new addition to the school called the Hope Center. The Hope Center will be used for mentoring as well as a parenting resource center. The center is a place where students will receive help in areas including academics, emotional and mental stability, and social skills. The Hope Center is funded by The Chapel, who works closely with Kids Hope USA and made this all possible. Lisette West, the Director of Kids Hope USA and Kay Wallace, the Family Life Director of Chapel among others were very influential in proving this safe and comfortable space to advocate for the students. The Chapel raised $85,000 to fund the building for the Hope Center through Project GeneroCity. The church collected the Easter offering from both of their locations, and put the money together to fund this project.
The mentors and volunteers serve as an extra layer of support for the students. The mentors consult with the students’ teachers and counselors to gain insight on what particular areas the child may be strugglings The 40 mentors work closely with the students. One church, one child, one school, one hour is their motto. Every child receives individual time with their mentor in order to cater to their specific needs. Cissie Lovell and Annett Lamond started this mentoring program at Wildwood with a vision that is still having a positive influence on not only the students and the school, but also the mentors. This program helps strengthen the mentors in a new way. Annett Lamond says she appreciates what it gives back to the church as well as the child.
