A bridge, a crane, and a building for the homeless were the winning designs in the January 29, 2016 LEGO contest at WHAM, sponsored by the local chapter of Women in Construction. Nora Badinger won first place (bridge), Yancey Steady (crane) won second place and Moria Gauthier (building) took third place with their designs that used 75 to 100 LEGO pieces that could be enhanced with three of four available additions – cardboard, string, rocks and aluminum foil. The interview with the judges was a major factor in winning. The students discussed why their project was important and how it helped the community.
Twenty-four fourth and fifth grades students sat on the gym floor and competed for prizes of $50, $30, and $20. The winning designs were photographed and the photos are entered into a regional contest. Winning photos from the regional go to the national contest. The contest was sponsored by the local chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction.
