School Performance Scores Show Mixed Results

East Baton Rouge Parish School System received a District Performance Score of 79.8 when the Louisiana Department of Education released District Performance Scores Thursday.  The score represents a 1.5 point decline which district administrators attribute in part to adjusting to changes in statewide assessments.

“Today’s release of performance scores for schools and the East Baton Rouge Parish School District mirror a slightly downward trend across the state. While there are definitely areas for improvement, I am particularly proud of the growth of some of our schools like Northeast High School, Merrydale Elementary, North Banks Middle, White Hills Elementary and Jefferson Terrace Elementary and Mentorship Academy,” Each of these 6 schools grew by 10 or more points.

This year, 16 East Baton Rouge Parish Schools increased their school performance score enough to advance to the next letter grade. In addition, four schools exited Academically Unacceptable Status.

The district also has fewer D and F schools than in previous years.  “This is essentially a baseline score. We are raising expectations, and providing the tools necessary to improve student achievement,” Superintendent Drake said.
Current plans to improve academic performance include:
