Press Release Jan. 1 2016
Long-time District 4 School Board Member Jacqueline Mims was selected by the board to replace Tarvald Smith who was recently elected to Baton Rouge City Court. Mims was one of seven candidates vying for the spot. She will serve until a special election set to be held on March 5. Mims says she has no intentions of running for the seat at that time.
Mims previously held the seat from 1991 to 2004, serving as president of the School Board in 2003 and 2004. She has remained an active member of the community for the more than 33 years she has lived in District 4. Most recently Mims has focused her efforts on community dialogue around the closure and reopening of Istrouma High School.
Mims currently serves as the Clinical Director/CEO of Eclectic Cognitive Behavioral Center. In addition to her clinical practice, she serves as an Adjunct Professor of Mental Health Counseling, Psychology and Special Education.
Mims and her husband Rufus have six children and seven grandchildren.
