High school football player Kaleb Jackson is excited to show Baton Rouge his skills and character — on and off the field

Oct. 26 2021

TV station WAFB Channel 9 named the junior running back its Player of the Week back in September after his Liberty High School Patriots defeated White Castle. The station reported that “Jackson ran the ball exceptionally well. He rushed for 260 yards on just nine carries and got in the end zone six times, leading Liberty to a 49-7 win.”

For Jackson, it’s just another day on the field. However, he feels honored to be recognized and praised for the hard work he’s been putting in.

“It feels great,” Jackson said. “It lets me know that I’m doing something right.”

Liberty head football coach Drey Trosclair said his running back’s work ethic matches his talent, on and off the field.

“It takes him over the top,” Trosclair said of Jackson’s success.

Jackson said his mindset is winning every game for the rest of the season. However, the football player said he and his team are ready for whatever challenges they face.

“We talk before the game, and I’ll say, ‘We gotta do our thing today,’ ” Jackson said.

For Jackson, he wants to take his time and enjoy the game. Since he was 5 years old, he’s played the game and wants people to see how his dedication has paid off.

“All my coaches and teammates tell me just to play your game. Don’t worry about what they’re saying; worry about what the defense (on the opposing team) is doing. Just focus on what you gotta do,’ ’’ Jackson said.

Jackson is gearing up for a winning season and having fun on the field with his teammates.

Liberty’s homecoming game is Oct. 29, where the team will face off with Rayne High School.
