The classroom environment encourages and supports opportunities for all students to achieve academic success, while also ensuring students obtain necessary life-skills through partaking in opportunities to grow intellectually, philanthropically, and socially. Woodlawn High offers traditional and honors classes, Gifted and Talented, Magnet, Exceptional Student Services, and English as a Second Language Programs. It is also one of 100 schools in the United States to offer Pre-AP courses provided through the National Math and Science Initiative Grant. Students can participate in innovative programs such as agricultural science I and II, Gifted and Great Scholars, honors, hospitality and tourism, ProStart, Talented (art, music, and theatre), and technical (welding and electricity).
Faculty and staff are committed to implementing and providing a school environment conducive to learning and to helping students achieve success. In 2017-2018, Woodlawn produced two National Merit Finalists, three National Merit Semi-Finalists, three National Merit Commended Students, and one National Hispanic Scholar. Woodlawn also boasts 28 AP Scholars, with four of those students receiving the National AP Scholar Award. Eleven students earned AP Scholars with Distinction. At Woodlawn High, students are responsible members of the community who demonstrate this by respecting the right of all to learn in a safe and challenging atmosphere, while also inspiring themselves and others to reach their highest collective potential, intellectually, physically and emotionally.
